I’ve known this for years.

Sat Aug 6, 7:29 PM ET LONDON (AFP) – Men who are accused of never listening by women now have an excuse — women’s voices are more difficult for men to listen to than other men’s, a report said.

The Daily Mail, quoting findings published in the specialist magazine

NeuroImage, said researchers at Sheffield university in northern England discovered startling differences in the way the brain responds to male and female sounds.

Men deciphered female voices using the auditory part of the brain that processes music, while male voices engaged a simpler mechanism, it said.

The Mail quoted researcher Michael Hunter as saying, “The female voice is actually more complex than the male voice, due to differences in the size and shape of the vocal cords and larynx between men and women, and also due to women having greater natural ‘melody’ in their voices.

“This causes a more complex range of sound frequencies than in a male voice.”

The findings may help explain why people suffering hallucinations usually hear male voices, the report added, as the brain may find it much harder to conjure up a false female voice accurately than a false male voice.

Ape to “Man”

I just watched “Ape to Man” on the History Channel. Its about man’s 150000 year evolution from a primate-ish hominid to the humans we exist as today. I don’t really believe that humans evolved from apes, but thats not the point I’m going to discuss.

The conclusion features the “more advanced” Homo sapiens pretty much hunting down the remaining “less advanced” Neanderthals as the H. sapiens moved farther and farther into Northern Eurasia, where the Neanderthals still dwelt.

It rather reminded me of the modern white man trying to exterminate any non-white minorities that are thought to be inferior. Genocide, slavery, etc.

As this program makes it seem, Homo sapiens made an effort to hunt down and destroy all that they deemed inferior, including their closest intelligent relatives. I don’t know about you, but I found this ABSOLUTELY FUCKING IRONIC. Now some of you may argue about my usage of that word, but I stick to it believing that it gets my point across.

Thats why I dont claim to be white. I always check “other.”

Monsters

So I was ripping up the floor in my bathroom, one hardwood plank at a time, when I stopped for a second to plan my next move.

This is the floor in question. It smells like wet wood with a faint trace of old people.

In the silence, I heard what sounded like a cross between a cat purring and an an insect skittering. In my aloneness, I was overcome with a flight response. I quickly put the plank back into its place and pounded it down with my pry bar. Yes, this was only the first plank I had ripped up, and it was actually a fragment of the entire plank, for you nitpickers. Anyway, I stopped ripping up the floor and started patching the random holes in the walls that were not located in the bathroom.
